INDICATIONS
Holding dip solution overnight is not recommended, but if this is necessary a suitable bacteriostat should be added beforehand to help prevent the build-up of bacteria in the dip. If mycotic dermatitis is a problem the addition of a bacteriostat such as Bacto-stop (chlorhexidine) as directed on product labels is recommended.

WHAT IS CHLORHEXIDINE?
Chlorhexidine is a broad-spectrum biocide (disinfectant/antiseptic) which is effective against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and fungi, it has both bacteriostatic (inhibits bacterial growth) and bactericidal (kills bacteria) mechanisms of action, depending on its concentration. Chlorhexidine kills by disrupting the cell membrane.

Upon application in vitro, chlorhexidine can kill nearly 100% of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria within 30 seconds.

Chlorhexidine can also help aid in reduction of post-dipping lameness following plunge dipping of sheep where bacterial levels maybe increased in contaminated dipwash.

DIRECTIONS
Add 2L of Bacto-stop to 1000L’s of dipwash.

STORAGE
Depending on the active ingredient and use of a bacteriostat, large volumes of unused wash can usually be stored for seven days.

Check manufacturer’s recommendations for retention times.

All treated wash, even if unused, should be disposed of after 14 days of storage.
